My name is Robert Maiorino I am 24 years old and currently reside in Wallingford, Connecticut. I am a commercial truck driver by trade, for leisure I enjoy scenic adventures, collecting Chinese tea ware and drinking an array of Chinese tea over good conversation with friends.

My love for the aquarium hobby started very early on in my childhood. My family kept a variety of small tropical fish and I spent countless hours in and out of local aquarium shops with my mother. Before I knew it, I was fascinated by fishkeeping and my journey began. As I entered my teenage years I ventured into keeping a variety of small aquarium species from betta fish to plecos and then eventually keeping Senegal bichers.

My passion for keeping goldfish first started in December of 2021 when I purchased two Chinese Ranchu through an online retailer. Over the past few years I’ve spent most of my time researching the history of goldfish while gaining hands-on experience by keeping a variety of fancy goldfish breeds. As of now i have over 10 system’s up and running throughout my fish room plus an additional display tank in my bedroom. My personal collection consists of Chinese, Japanese and Thai Ranchu, Phoenix tail Ranchu, Ryukin, Oranda, butterfly telescope and lastly, fantails. The further I dive into the art of keeping goldfish, the more I’ve learned to appreciate every breed and color pattern individually, especially because each variant has contributed to the fish we get to enjoy today.

Over the course of 2024 I’ve had many trial and error breeding projects in efforts to learn how to properly raise goldfish from egg. As we move into 2025 I plan to work further on this and continue to adventure into the advanced side of the hobby. My next projects will consist of breeding my collection of Dragon scale/Aragoke and Hammer scale parent Oranda, Ranchu and telescope along with carrying out an Albino line passed to me from Gage Harford. Another goal of mine for 2025 is to dive deeper into keeping longer bodied goldfish such as Wakin and Jikin.

My main goal in this hobby is to carve a path for beginner goldfish enthusiasts that will lead to success in keeping/diagnosing/treating illness while having the pleasure of meeting life-long friends and traveling around the world to connect with hobbyists that share the same passion. I believe we all have a duty to keep Goldfish keeping alive for future generations and I’m honored to be a part of this process. I plan to get involved with goldfish events throughout the US in the coming years. I believe this can open the hobby to new faces and inspire the future generations of young hobbyists.
